Our country India has a total of seven different color number plates.  What it means is as follows.

1) Red number plate:

Red number plate is found in the vehicles of the President of India or the Governor of that state.  These people can use official vehicles without a license.  In this type of number plate the number is written in gold color and in these vehicles the national symbol of our country " Ashoka Shilalekh " is made in red number plate.

2) Blue number plate: 

Blue number plate is used by foreign representatives.  The blue number plate has white numbers written on it.  You can find such vehicles in big cities, Mumbai or Delhi.  This blue number plate indicates that the vehicle belongs to a foreign embassy, ​​or to a UN mission.

3) White number plate:

This type of number plate is found in normal vehicles.  Which you all must have seen too.  This type of number plate usually has black numbers written on it.  This type of number plate cannot be used commercially.  And legal action may be taken if used.  This type of number plate is usually given to individual vehicles.

4) Yellow number plate: 

This type of colored number plate is issued for vehicles used on commercial basis.  This type of number plate has a black number.  Such number plates are found in commercial vehicles such as autorickshaws, buses.  This type of number plate is affixed with yellow plaques to identify the vehicle.

5) Black number plate: 

This type of number plate is commonly found in commercial vehicles.  But such a number plate is given only to a special person.  Such a number plate has a yellow number printed on it.  You can see such vehicles in big hotels or big cities.

6) Green number plate:

This type of number plate has been fixed by the Ministry of Roads for electronic vehicles.  Such a number plate will have a green background and the numbers inside will be yellow or white depending on the range of vehicles.

7) Number plate with arrow : 

This type of number plate is used in military vehicles.  Such vehicles have an arrow pointing upwards instead of the first or third digit of the number plate.  Which is called Broad Arrow.  The two digits after the arrow show that year.  Which shows the year in which the Army purchased the vehicle.  This type of number plate has a total of 11 numbers written on it.

So these seven types of number plates are used in India.  But there is also a reason why different number plates are used in this way.  Which we discuss.

● Such rules were made in India to better enforce India's transport rules and to facilitate the work of the traffic police.  Now let's talk about the laws and regulations of the Government of India regarding number plates.

1) According to The Central Moter Vehicle Act- 1989, Section 50 D, the number plate of any vehicle should be in English letters only.  It is a legal offense for a person to make a number plate in a different language.  And which is also fined.  And the number plate of any private vehicle should be white and the number plate of commercial vehicles should be yellow and the numbers should be written in black.

2) Numbers should be written in plain letters.  In which it is a crime to write any design or name.  Such as police, advocates etc.

3) Any tampering with the number plate of a vehicle is subject to different penalties from the offense under the Motor Vehicle Act.

● What does the number plate mean?



The number plate means in which state and where it is registered and what is the number of that vehicle.  A plate showing it.  The numbers written in it indicate which state the next two letters are the vehicle of.  The next two letters indicate the district RTO office in which he is registered.  The letter next to it shows the serial number of that vehicle.  And the last 4 letters are a unique number given to vehicles.
